More than 300 runners battled up and down the hiking paths of the Monte Pisano for this thrilling edition of the Monti Pisani Trail. At 8 AM the start from Calci, a small village at the bottom of the ancient mountain range, 10 km from Pisa. Obligatory equipment: GPS maps, camelback with water, plastic glasses, whistle and a charged cell phone!

Three different routes were available: the short one (17 km), the medium one (29 km and 1700 m+) and the long one (46 km and 2700 m+). Surrounded by the characteristic Tuscan countryside, the 3 routes unfolds among terraced olive groves held up by dry-stone walls, taking the runner on a tour of the hidden gems of the historical and artistic heritage of Pisa: Romanesque parish churches, Medieval citadels and ancient monasteries.

Perfect scenario for a trail that year after year is gaining an international dimension. For the 2016 edition twelve runners came from abroad to live this running experience, and a delegation of international journalists joined the Monti Pisani Trail: in the next months we’ll read their reports!
